The Gwaihir™ Necklace with Gemstone was inspired from the pages of The Hobbit ® and The Lord of the Rings™, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Gwaihir was the greatest of the eagles of Middle Earth™ and a friend of Gandalf the Gray ®. Gwaihir is best know for saving Thorin and Company™ from Wargs™ and Orcs on their journey to the Lonely Mountain™.
Each Gwaihir Necklace is skillfully handcrafted one at a time in your choice of sterling silver or 14k gold. The great eagle clutches your choice of 8 x 6 mm gemstones. Choose from natural amethyst, black onyx, carnelian agate, garnet, hematite, iolite, jade, lapis lazuli, malachite, moonstone, tiger's eye or turquoise gemstones or dark blue, light blue, green, purple, yellow, orange, and white synthetic fiber-eye stones. Due to the nature of natural gemstones, variations will occur from the examples shown. Stones with a cat's eye such as Tigers Eye or Moonstone, the placement of the eye may not be perfectly vertical.
The Gwaihir pendant measures approximately 66.7 mm (2 5/8") from wing tip to tip by 17.7 mm (11/16") wide from eagle's back to talon. The eagle weighs approximately 21.3 grams in sterling silver / approximately 26.6 grams in 14k gold.
The sterling silver necklace includes an 18" long sterling silver flgaro chain, (20" total length). The 14k gold pendant includes an 18" long gold filled figaro chain (20" total length).
