H.P. Lovecraft wrote about the Elder Sign in The Shadow Over Innsmouth and The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath. The elder sign is used in defense against the Deep Ones, they can not harm someone protected by the Elder Sign. The pendant features the handwritten symbol that HP Lovecraft included in a 1930 letter to Clark Ashton Smith.

A lovely and neutral sigil of occult defense.
It's got a nice classy appearance, and really feels like a sigil of protection one can really believe in and put their faith into for defense against Shoggoths, werewolves, and vampires alike! As a follower of Hekate, I find it's natural branch-like appearance quite appealing as a symbol of life and its resilience, as well as the different paths and forms it can take. Plus it doesn't get mistaken for a pentagram/pentacle or such nearly as much as the Astral/Derleth Elder Sign. That said I do wear both for added protection, and probably will right into the grave, can never be too careful in these uncertain times after all haha. Highly recommend!
Exactly what I was looking for.
I wanted a sterling silver Lovecraft elder sign, not Dereleth's, and this one is perfect. I received it today and I couldn't be happier with it. It looks better than what is shown here.
