"It had a perfectly round door like a porthole, painted green,
with a shiny yellow brass knob in the exact middle."
- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
The most iconic feature of Bag End™ , the home of Bilbo Baggins and later Frodo Baggins , was its beautiful green door. The rune found in the top right corner of the door is the secret mark made by Gandalf in The Hobbit. The rune was a signal to Thorin's Dwarven party that this was the home of their burglar and treasure hunter. The mark is a Dwarvish rune combining the meanings of the "F" and "R" runes. Together the runes indicates that the occupant of the home is in search of a journey for wealth, treasure and adventure and is willing to travel. Or as Gandalf described it: "Burglar wants a good job, plenty of excitement and reasonable reward".
